Ground Deformation Monitoring
INSAR Corporation is a ground deformation monitoring service provider delivering satellite-based InSAR analysis to mining operators, energy companies, and infrastructure owners worldwide. Our work supports critical decisions – from slope stability assessments to regulatory compliance – across some of the most demanding operating environments on the planet.
Who We Are
Our team monitors, analyzes, and interprets ground movement for clients in mining, energy, and infrastructure sectors worldwide. We specialize in translating complex geospatial data into clear, decision-ready intelligence where operational safety, infrastructure integrity, and regulatory compliance are at stake.
Where appropriate, we integrate satellite InSAR with GNSS and field measurements to provide a multi-sensor view of ground behaviour. This enables visibility of both vertical and horizontal movement, supported by independent validation.
What is InSAR?
InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) is a satellite-based remote sensing technique that detects ground surface movement at millimetre to centimetre precision across areas spanning hundreds of square kilometres.
By analyzing phase differences between radar images acquired at different times, it reveals subtle deformation patterns that are often undetectable using conventional ground-based monitoring systems.
Unlike traditional methods, InSAR:
- No on-site instrumentation: the surface is measured entirely from satellite
- All-weather, day and night: radar is unaffected by cloud or darkness
- Continuous spatial coverage: millions of points rather than isolated stations
- Historical archive: retrospective analysis back to the 1990s
Why InSAR?
- No on-site equipment required: monitor remote or inaccessible sites
- Historical insight: reconstruct deformation history using decades of archived data
- Wide-area coverage: map deformation across hundreds to thousands of square kilometres per acquisition
- High precision: detect millimetre-scale movement before it becomes visible or hazardous
- All-weather, day and night: radar imaging is independent of cloud cover and lighting conditions
- Vertical and horizontal motion: MSBAS enables true multi-dimensional displacement analysis
- Quantified uncertainty: each measurement includes a standard error, validated against GNSS and levelling
- Proven at scale: peer-reviewed methods applied in national-scale deformation mapping
Our Capabilities
We provide end-to-end ground deformation monitoring solutions – from long-term regional surveillance to rapid-response geohazard assessments. All outputs are supported by rigorous quality control and scalable, automated processing workflows.
- Subsidence monitoring: early detection of ground movement affecting infrastructure and operations
- Mining & industrial monitoring: stability monitoring for open-pit mines, underground workings, and tailings storage facilities
- Oil & gas operations: tracking enhanced recovery, underground gas storage, and injection impacts for safety and compliance
- Geohazard monitoring: detection of landslides, slope instability, and induced seismicity
- Geothermal and CCUS monitoring: production and storage-related ground deformation tracking
- Custom geospatial analytics: tailored multi-sensor solutions for complex operational environments
Deliverables include high-resolution deformation rate maps, per-point displacement time series with uncertainty estimates, and interpretive reports – calibrated against independent reference data such as GNSS.
Industries We Support
- Mining: slope stability, tailings dam integrity, and subsidence monitoring
- Oil and Gas: reservoir management, injection monitoring, and HSE compliance
- Infrastructure and Transportation: urban subsidence, transport corridors, and dam safety
- Government and Environment: geohazard surveillance and regulatory risk assessment
- Geothermal and CCUS: injection and storage integrity monitoring
- Insurance: independent verification of ground risk and infrastructure stability
Across all sectors, our work is used to detect emerging risks before they become incidents – supporting timely intervention, reducing liability exposure, and enabling defensible reporting to regulators and stakeholders.
Trust & Confidentiality
We work with mining operators, energy companies, and government agencies where data is often commercially sensitive, operationally critical, or subject to regulatory scrutiny. Every project is handled under strict confidentiality protocols, and all findings are shared exclusively with the client.
We do not publish client data, reference client names without explicit permission, or share insights across engagements. Our role is to support your operations – not to expose them.
Project Highlights
The following examples illustrate the range and depth of our work, spanning urban subsidence, mining operations, energy infrastructure, landslide monitoring, and induced seismicity. Each project is processed using our multi-sensor InSAR platform, producing high-resolution deformation maps and displacement time series for operational decision-making.
